How to see sold items on eBay, and read what you find

Seeing sold items on eBay takes one filter. Search for the item, then turn on Sold items, or open Advanced Search and pick it there. You get the matching listings that sold in the last 90 days. For older sales, and for the real price when a seller took an offer, eBay's free Product Research tool goes back 3 years.

eBay keeps a public record of what things sold for. For pricing, that record beats anything a seller is asking, because it shows what a buyer paid. Why asking prices mislead has its own guide. How do you see sold items on eBay on a computer?

On a computer, eBay's own instructions use Advanced Search. eBay's pricing help page gives three steps: go to Advanced Search, enter keywords that describe your item, choose Completed listings and search. The Advanced Search form has Sold items right next to it, which keeps only the listings that found a buyer.

1. Open Advanced SearchGo to eBay's Advanced Search page and keep it bookmarked. You'll be back for the next item.
2. Describe the item exactlyBrand, model, size, pattern or edition. Words printed on the item beat a description of it. Use the Exclude words box to drop lots, parts and cases.
3. Tick Sold itemsUnder Search including, tick Sold items. Completed items on its own also shows listings that ended with no buyer.
4. Search and read the matchesRun the search. Open anything that looks like your item and skip anything that isn't the same thing in the same condition.

The same filter sits on the normal results page. Search from the eBay home page, then look for Sold items among the filters. An eBay Community mentor describes it in the left-hand column on a computer.

How do you see sold items in the eBay app?

In the eBay app, the Sold filter lives in the Filter menu of a keyword search. Search for the item, tap Filter, find the Sold option and turn it on. The results then show only the matching listings that sold.

Can't find it? eBay Community members report two fixes in a thread on the missing filter: look under Show more at the bottom of the Filter menu, and update the app to its latest version. Search with words, too. For a while the app's photo search didn't offer the Sold filter at all, according to another Community thread.

What is the difference between sold and completed listings?

A sold listing ended with a buyer. A completed listing ended, sold or not; an eBay Community mentor calls it a mixture of sold and unsold items. For a price, read the sold ones, never the active ones. The unsold ones still teach you something: a price where the same item ended unsold three times is a price buyers already turned down. How far back do eBay sold listings go?

eBay's regular sold search goes back 90 days. eBay's Product Research help page says completed listings results "include only listings that have recently ended sold in the previous 90 days." Your own sales reach back 2 years, and Product Research reaches back 3.

Ninety days covers anything that sells every week. It runs thin for rare items, seasonal ones, and anything that sells a few times a year. That is when the 3-year window earns its place.

Is Terapeak free? What eBay's Product Research adds

Yes. Terapeak is now called Product Research, and eBay made it free for every Seller Hub seller in April 2021, with no Store subscription needed, according to eBay's announcement. It sits under the Research tab in Seller Hub; if you've never used Seller Hub, you opt in first. In the eBay app it lives in the Selling tab, behind a Product Research banner, per eBay's seller update.

Product Research adds four things over the public search, per eBay's help page:

• Three years of sales. Pick any date range from one day up.
• The price the buyer paid. On a Best Offer sale, Product Research shows the actual sale price. The regular sold search doesn't reliably show it.
• The arithmetic, done. Average sold price, sold price range, average shipping, the number of sellers, and a sell-through rate for searches covering the last 90 days.
• Exact matches. eBay says that, in general, a sale must match your keywords and filters exactly to be included, where regular search often mixes in related results.

The part that costs money is Sourcing insights, a separate research view that comes with a Basic Store subscription or above. Pricing one item doesn't need it.

Why can't I see sold listings on eBay?

When sold listings won't show, it's usually one of these five things.

• The sale is older than 90 days. The public search stops there. Use Product Research, or treat the item as one with thin sales history.
• You searched by photo. Community members report the app's photo search once left out the Sold filter. Search with words.
• The option is folded away. In the app, check Show more at the bottom of the Filter menu, and update the app.
• You're signed out. One Community member found the app hid sold results until they signed back in. It takes ten seconds to rule out.
• Nothing sold. If the search is exact and the list is empty, that is a finding. Loosen one word at a time before you decide the item has no market.

What doesn't a sold listing tell you?

A sold listing tells you an item sold, and roughly for how much. Six things it leaves out can move the number you take from it.

One more trap. An eBay Community member tested the strike-through that sometimes marks a Best Offer sale and found it appears inconsistently, depending on how you search (the test, December 2024). So a sold price without a strike-through isn't proof of a full-price sale. If the listing said or Best Offer, treat the shown price as a ceiling.

How do you turn sold listings into a price?

Turning sold listings into one price takes three moves. Sort the close matches from low to high. Open the highest and the lowest to see why they're there. Then take the median of what's left. eBay leans on the same figure: its price guide for sports cards shows the median sold price, per eBay's pricing help page.

Paste the prices you found into the Sold comp analyzer. It sorts them, finds the median and the middle half, and flags the outliers worth opening. A sold price is evidence. An asking price is a guess. Filter to Sold before you read a single number.

Is there an app that shows what things sold for?

Yes. The eBay app shows sold listings through its Sold filter, and Product Research runs inside the app too. Photo tools answer an earlier question (what is this thing?), and some then put a value on it.
